Traveling from Newark Liberty Airport (EWR) to MetLife Stadium

Updated: June 202625 min read

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is physically located in New Jersey, roughly 12 miles south of MetLife Stadium. It is the absolute best airport to fly into if your primary destination is the Meadowlands, as it allows you to completely avoid the traffic of New York City.

The Train Route (Highly Recommended)

This is the cheapest and most reliable method. Once you land and collect your baggage, follow the signs for the AirTrain. Ride the AirTrain to the 'Newark Airport Railroad Station'. Purchase an NJ Transit ticket to 'Secaucus Junction'. Board any northbound train (towards NY Penn Station). Get off at Secaucus Junction, and you are immediately connected to the Meadowlands Rail Line.

The Uber / Lyft Route

Taking an Uber from EWR to a hotel in Secaucus or East Rutherford is incredibly fast under normal conditions (roughly 15-20 minutes up the NJ Turnpike). Expect this to cost around $30-$45. However, if you attempt this exactly on matchday afternoon, the Turnpike will be gridlocked, and surge pricing will be extreme.

Renting a Car

All major rental car agencies operate directly out of EWR. If you are staying in a suburban Airbnb or planning to tailgate heavily, renting a car is a good idea. However, if your hotel is in Manhattan, Hoboken, or Jersey City, do not rent a car—the parking fees at those hotels will ruin your budget.

EWR Logistics

  • Terminal A:

EWR recently opened a massive, state-of-the-art Terminal A. If you fly an airline operating out of this terminal, the walk to the AirTrain is significantly longer than from Terminals B or C.
