Philadelphia's Best Coffee Shops and Cafes

Food & DiningUpdated: June 2026• 25 min read

Surviving the grueling schedule of a World Cup tournament requires massive amounts of caffeine. Philadelphia has a fiercely independent, highly sophisticated coffee roasting scene. Whether you need a perfectly pulled espresso shot to cure jetlag or a massive iced latte to survive the summer heat, Philly delivers.

The Pioneer: La Colombe

The Fishtown Flagship

La Colombe is now a national brand, but it started in Philadelphia. Their massive flagship cafe in Fishtown is stunning. It is housed in an enormous converted warehouse. You must order the 'Draft Latte'—a cold, incredibly frothy, slightly sweet coffee poured from a tap.

The Purist: Elixr Coffee Roasters

Center City Excellence

Elixr has several locations (including a beautiful spot in Center City). They focus heavily on lighter, highly complex roasts. It is a quiet, highly designed space perfect for serious coffee nerds looking for a flawless pour-over.

The Neighborhood Spot: Ultimo Coffee

South Philly Vibes

Ultimo Coffee (originally in Newbold) helped kickstart the third-wave coffee movement in South Philly. Their cafes are incredibly unpretentious, deeply integrated into the neighborhood, and they consistently pull some of the best espresso in the city.

The Roaster: ReAnimator Coffee

Industrial Cool

ReAnimator Coffee Roasters operates several cafes, but their massive roasting facility in Kensington is fantastic. The space is heavily industrial, loud, and smells incredibly like roasting beans. Their single-origin drip coffees are fantastic.

The Heat Strategy

The Iced Black and Tan

At La Colombe, a local summer favorite is the 'Black and Tan'. It is a massive glass layered with half pure, strong cold brew, and half frothy Draft Latte. It provides a massive caffeine punch but is incredibly smooth and refreshing.

World Cup 2026 Philadelphia Tips

Lincoln Financial Field is located in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Unlike many other NFL stadiums, the Linc is highly accessible via public transit. You must take the SEPTA Broad Street Line (the orange line) south to NRG Station. It drops you off literally steps from the stadium. Do not attempt to drive or take an Uber to the stadium on matchday; the traffic on Broad Street and I-95 will be catastrophic.
